Clinic marks World Hearing Day, offers 54 patients free medicare


Wilbon Ear, Nose and Throat (E.N.T) / Head and Neck Clinic, based in Benin City, Edo State, yesterday marked the 2024 World Hearing Day, with provision of free Medicare for patients varying from hearing tests and treatment of ear conditions.


Speaking, the Medical Director of Wilbon ENT Clinic, a former Edo Commissioner for Health and an E.N.T Surgeon, Dr Patrick Okundia, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of this year’s event saying that the Hospital marks the event yearly as a way of thanking God for His abundant grace and also to give back to the Society.

“It was a day set aside by the Hospital to give back to the Society while aligning with the World Health Organisation and Ear Specialists all over the world to celebrate the World Hearing Day, which is an annual event marked globally on the 3rd of March,” he said.

“There were several Clinical activities carried out which were anchored by Resident Doctors of the Hospital, Guest ENT Specialists from the University of Benin Teaching Hospital(UBTH) and the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Ogharra.”


He said a total of 54 Patients benefited from the One Day event with varied hearing tests and treatment of ear conditions which ranged from infections, wax impaction to foreign body removals.

Dr. Eustace Oseghale and Dr Atuyota Uchefe, Consultant ENT Surgeons, gave Health education lectures on Ear Care and Prevention of Hearing Loss as part of activities to commemorate the 2024 World Hearing Day.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Favour Chidi, thanked the Hospital Management on behalf of the others, she commended the level of care and intervention especially as everything was given free of charge.

The Theme for this year’s celebration is “Changing Mindset: Let’s Make Ear and Hearing Care a Reality for all.”
