Group writes Assembly, seeks dissolution of Ganduje-established emirates

A pressure group based in Kano State, Yan Dangwalen Jihar Kano, has advocated the dissolution of the four emirate councils established by the immediate past administration of Abdullahi Ganduje.

Besides, the group agitated for immediate reinstatement of the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to restore the glory and heritage of the emirate, lost after its balkanisation.

The group made the appeal in a petition signed by the Chairman, Najib Salati, addressed to the House of Assembly Speaker, copied to the Governor, his deputy and Secretary to the State Government (SSG), and sighted by The Guardian.

The petition reads: “Specifically, we would like to request a review and potential dissolution of the additional emirs and section (of the law) that led to the creation of the four additional emirates.

“It is our firm belief that consolidating the emirates into a single entity will lead to greater unity and progress for the people of Kano. This consolidation may serve to streamline governance and promote a more cohesive community for the betterment of all citizens.”

Acknowledging the authority of the Assembly in the issue of emirate management, the group requested reconsideration of the decision to remove Sanusi from his throne.

It added: “Our belief is based on the belief that Sanusi’s reinstatement will foster unity, peace and stability within Kano and neighbouring communities. He is a highly respected and influential figure, who has demonstrated his commitment to the well-being of the people of Kano throughout his tenure as Emir.

“During his time in office, he worked tirelessly to promote social and economic development, education, healthcare and improved living standards for the citizens of Kano.”

Removing him from his throne has caused division and unrest among the people of Kano, creating unnecessary tension within the community. By reinstating him as the Emir, we firmly believe that unity will be restored, bringing about a sense of togetherness and harmony.”
