LASEPA, NPA plan to achieve cleaner, pollution-free environment in Lagos
Lagos State Government has concluded all necessary arrangements to collaborate with operators/owners of event centres and other relevant stakeholders for seamless traffic flow across the state.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, disclosed this, yesterday, during a ‘stakeholders’ parley on traffic management and safety at event centres and places of gathering in Lagos.

Giwa said that the state government would no longer condone indiscipline on the roads, as slight delays caused by indiscriminate parking results in heavy traffic congestion that take hours to ease.

He added that the parley was not targeted at disrupting event centres’ businesses but to ensure orderliness and reduce travel time of motorists.

Earlier in his welcome address, General Manager of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said that effective traffic management around event centres would ensure safety of attendees at such gatherings and other residents in that area.

Also, Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, however, implored all stakeholders in the industry to comply with ‘traffic management policy’s plan to save travel time.

RELATEDLY, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) have expressed willingness to collaborate towards achieving a cleaner Lagos environment that is pollution free and sustainable.

For this reason, the two agencies have agreed to strengthen collaborations that would help to monitor and protect the environment from pollution and other environmental violations that may have direct consequences on human health and the ecosystem.

This was part of the agreements reached, yesterday, during a meeting held at the NPA Office, Marina, Lagos, between officials of LASEPA, led by its General Manager, Dr Tunde Ajayi and representatives of the NPA, led by its Principal Manager, Health, Safety and Environment, Emeka Uchendu, who was represented by Acting General Manager, Adekunle Adesola.
